abouteBikes is an independent guide to electric bikes and the gear that goes with them. We help you work out which bike suits the riding you actually do, and which numbers on the listing you can ignore.
What this site is
E-bike listings lead with the figure that flatters them most: a peak motor rating, a best-case range, a top speed that may not be legal where you ride. We take a calmer approach. Start with how you’ll use the bike, understand what the battery, motor and frame specifications really mean, and only then decide what’s worth buying.
The site covers the bikes themselves, and everything after the purchase: charging safely, stopping theft, fixing a flat on a hub motor, and getting more range from the battery you already own.
How we work
We read the full specifications and a large volume of owner feedback, translate both into plain English, and report the problems that keep recurring. We do not carry out hands-on testing, and we say so openly. Where independent test data exists, such as helmet impact ratings, we use it and name the source. The details are on our How We Choose page.
How the site is funded
abouteBikes is free to read and is paid for by affiliate commission when you buy through our links. Commission never decides what we feature or in what order. The full explanation is on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Riding in the UK?
E-bike rules and products differ a lot between countries. Our sister site, aboutebikes.co.uk, covers UK law and kit available there.
